On January 15th…Rachel & Miles Schoening became the new owners of Sherwood Station Bistro. Originally from California and living in Beaverton the owners look forward to adding some flair to Old Town Sherwood. According to the owners they chose Sherwood for their business venture, because Sherwood is such an inviting community. Plus the potential for growth for their business is so strong.

The restaurant is focused on food and really good food that is simple, local, and is served with a smile. Currently their busiest day is Sunday, but always looking to make the weekdays busier. Their top selling items include: Biscuits & Gravy (made fresh every day), Soups (also made fresh every day), and  Burgers (grilled to order & natural local beef). They are also happy to provide boxed lunches for meetings.

Last but not least Fat Milo’s Family Kitchen is a family run business. They will soon be opening for dinner, and have applied for our OLCC license. The Schoenings want very much to become an integral part of the downtown Sherwood community.

Next entry…will highlight our second new business Ray’s Old Town Produce.

On October 30th the 1st Annual Sherwood Trick or Treat took place in Old Town. Hundreds of costumed families showed up to show off their costumes and visit local businesses for candy. Visitors to Old Town started at Veterans Park and obtained a map as well as list of participating businesses from myself the Downtown Development Coordinator. I printed out fifty maps and distributed one to each group of trick or treaters I ran out of the maps and lists within an hour. Fortunately, I found a couple extras and with each group having anywhere between three or four people we estimate there were approximately 250 to 300 people present at the Trick or Treat. I ran out of my three pound bag of candy and almost every business owner ran out of candy. Each trick or treater donated anywhere between one to four cans along with boxes of food. My caravan was filled to the brim with donated food and Saint Francis Catholic Church will put the food to use for their Hope Diner program.

A Halloweenie at The Old Town Sherwood Trick or Treat

Trick or Treat....BOO!

In addition to the Trick or Treat, The Sherwood Historical Society held its annual Haunted House with a Thriller Performance done by a Michael Jackson impersonator from Estacada. On Friday the society raised a lot of money and had many people explore the Smock House which actually happens to be haunted. Besides venturing into the haunted house there were opportunities to paint pumpkins, participate in a pumpkin toss, and grab candy of course. The only activity missing was bobbing for apples or maybe it should be bobbing for onions, now that does not sound very pleasant. In either case when in doubt reserve October 30th for Halloween tricks and treats in Old Town Sherwood as the event will definitely be back again next year.

Although it is only the beginning of November, we are actively working on promoting our next event Sherwood Dickensfest 2009 which will be held on December 5th starting at 11am and then a parade goes through Old Town at 4pm. Look for additional information on our twitter page at http://twitter.com/SherwoodOregon along with the city’s website http://www.ci.sherwood.or.us .

Also, do not forget that Thanksgiving Day is the Give N’ Gobble run/walk food drive at Sherwood High School that will consist of a 5K and 10K starting at 9am.

It’s All Arranged

After grabbing food at The Lavender Tea House why not pick up some flowers for your special someone at It’s All Arranged floral shop. Owned by a Sherwood native Allison Bartalotto chose to return after college to her hometown and continue the floral design business in Old Town as the previous one was there for thirty years. Bartalotto’s shop is seven years in the making and specializes in contemporary floral design. The busiest times of year are the upcoming holidays of Thanksgiving, and Christmas. However, Valentine’s Day is when one will find the flower shop to be packed. Currently there is not a top selling item at All Arranged, but you will have plenty of choices when you venture into this shop as seen in the pictures below.

It's All Arranged

With regards to events, It’s All Arranged can assist you for your wedding, engagement parties and more. The staff has previously taught basic floral design skills to local community organizations too. Flower deliveries are made all over Sherwood, Tigard, Tualatin, and Wilsonville.

Jamie Yang is originally from Ohio and owns as well as operates the Lavender Tea House located in Old Town Sherwood. She moved to the West Coast for college in California and then eventually made the move to Oregon. A resident of Portland, Jamie chose Old Town Sherwood for her business location, because of the ambiance and community environment that Sherwoodians provide. Also a Tea House cannot open just anywhere, location is everything and historic downtowns are excellent for this type of business. Indulging in an Afternoon English Tea will typically encompass your visit to the Lavender Tea House and that experience is over 400 years old. With tea brings history, so locating a tea house in a historic structure is quite common.

Although the Lavender Tea House has only been in Sherwood for six years, it has made quite an impression in the Greater Portland Region. If you decide to go on a wine tour there is a very good chance your tour may stop by the #1 tea house in Oregon for brunch. Besides visiting it on your wine tour you can also buy scones at many of the local farmers markets including Sherwood, Beaverton, and others. Make sure to grab a bite of a sweet cream scone the top selling Lavender Tea House item. If you plan on going to the tea house in person then make sure you call ahead during the winter holidays as well as Mothers Day which are the two busiest times of the year. Additionally, the tea house becomes quite packed during the weekends.

Interested in etiquette? Lavender Tea House can assist with teaching both children along with adults. Need some extra baking space for your event? You can rent out the tea house’s kitchen which has plenty of room. Trying to determine where to hold your friend’s bridal or baby shower, why not try something different?
